Iconic Singer Tina Turner Passes Away at 83

Tina Turner, the legendary singer known as the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll, passed away on May 24, 2023, at 83, after a long illness.

Her representative shared the news through a statement and a black-and-white photo of the iconic artist.

The statement expressed deep sadness and acknowledged Turner’s immense impact on millions of fans worldwide.

Survived by her husband, German producer Erwin Bach, and her two sons, Michael and Ike Turner Jr., whom she had adopted during her first marriage to Ike Turner, Tina Turner’s passing prompted an outpouring of grief from fans and celebrities alike.

While she had captured hearts with her music and stage presence, her life was marked by significant challenges.

One of the major obstacles Turner faced was domestic abuse.

Born Anna Mae Bullock, she rose to fame in her twenties after joining Ike Turner and his band, Kings of Rhythm.

Despite their public image, Tina endured years of physical abuse at the hands of her husband.

In a candid interview with the Sunday Times in 2018, she revealed the violence she experienced and the constant ill-treatment she endured due to Ike’s fear of her leaving him.

The biopic “What Has Love Got to Do with It” depicted the documented abuse, with Angela Bassett and Laurence Fishburne portraying Tina and Ike, respectively.

In 1978, Tina finally managed to escape the abusive relationship by divorcing Ike.

Besides the domestic violence she endured, Tina Turner faced various health issues throughout her life.

First, she battled post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), kidney failure, high blood pressure, and intestinal cancer.

Then, in October 2013, she suffered a stroke, an experience she shared in her memoir “My Love Story,” released in 2018.

Tina described waking up suddenly and experiencing a lightning bolt-like sensation in her head and leg, along with difficulties in speaking.

Finally, she realized she was having a stroke and sought help from her husband.

After a 10-day hospital stay, she began the challenging rehabilitation process, working hard to regain her walking ability.

Tragically, Tina Turner also faced the loss of her oldest son, Raymond Craig, in 2018.

Raymond, whom she had with Raymond Hill, died by suicide in Los Angeles.

In the aftermath of his death, Tina scattered his ashes off the California coast and expressed her profound grief, calling it her saddest moment as a mother.

Despite her obstacles, Tina Turner persevered and inspired others through her music and resilience.

Her life was a testament to her strength and determination to keep going, despite adversity.

The world mourns the loss of this remarkable artist, who left behind a legacy that will continue to resonate with future generations.
