Stellantis Announces New Sub-$25,000 Jeep EV to Challenge Tesla

Jeep’s new sub-$25,000 Renegade EV, teased by Stellantis boss Carlos Tavares, aims to revolutionize the electric vehicle market by 2027, sharing technology with Citroen e-C3.

Jeep EV

As electric vehicles continue to proliferate across the United States, Jeep has announced an exciting new addition to its lineup—a sub-$25,000 electric vehicle (EV) expected to launch around 2027.

This move is part of Jeep’s ambitious plan to sell 50% more vehicles in 2027 than it did in 2023.

Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares’s announcement signals a significant step forward for legacy automakers aiming to compete with industry leader Tesla.

A Game-Changing Model: The New Jeep Renegade EV

The new model, the Renegade, will replace the older internal combustion engine (ICE) version and is set to be a small UV (utility vehicle).

This development was confirmed during an investor day event at Stellantis headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

The Renegade EV, priced under $25,000, promises to make electric vehicles more accessible to a broader audience.

Shared Technology with Citroen e-C3

Though Stellantis has yet to release detailed specifications for the all-electric Renegade, it is expected to share much of its technology with the Citroen e-C3 introduced in Europe last year.

The Citroen e-C3, starting at €23,300 ($25,000), features a 44 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery that provides up to 199 miles (320 km) of WLTP range.

It is powered by an electric motor producing 111 hp and supports 100 kW DC fast charging through a 400-volt electrical architecture.

Carlos Tavares’ Vision for Affordable EVs

Carlos Tavares emphasized the importance of the sub-$25,000 price point for the new Jeep EV, describing it as the “sweet spot” for an affordable electric vehicle.

“If you ask me what is an affordable BEV, I would say €20,000 in Europe and $25,000 in the U.S. So our job is to bring the safe, clean, and affordable BEV to the U.S. $25,000. We will do it,” he stated.

The Future of Jeep’s EV Lineup

While the new Renegade is set to share technology with the Citroen e-C3, Jeep will likely make distinctive modifications to align with its rugged brand image.

This could include aesthetic changes to strengthen the vehicle and potential interior upgrades for enhanced comfort and functionality.

The new Renegade represents Jeep’s strategic push into the EV market, aiming to provide consumers with an affordable yet advanced option.

With its competitive pricing and shared technology with established European models, the Renegade could help Jeep achieve its sales goals and challenge Tesla’s dominance in the electric vehicle market.

Stay tuned for more updates as Stellantis and Jeep reveal further details about this groundbreaking model, which promises to make electric vehicles more accessible to a broader audience.
