DS Automobiles Gears Up to Unveil New Crossover Coupe

Get the scoop on DS Automobiles’ latest crossover coupe, mixing sleek style with tough vibes. Peek at its design, tech, and what makes it tick.

DS Automobiles Latest Innovation

DS Automobiles is not staying behind in an era where the demand for crossover coupes is rising.

The French premium car manufacturer, a significant part of the Stellantis group, is developing a new model that promises to blend the elegance of a sedan with the robust appeal of a crossover coupe.

This vehicle is anticipated to be the spiritual successor to the DS 9 sedan, showcasing the brand’s innovative approach to design and technology.

Name and Design Inspirations

The name of this upcoming model remains shrouded in mystery, with speculations suggesting it might be christened either the DS 8 or DS 9

This model draws inspiration from the Aero Sports Lounge Concept unveiled four years ago, although it has been refined and toned down for production.

The design features slim LED headlamps and a distinctive daytime running light (DRL) signature that adds to its modern aesthetic.

A closed-off grille indicates the model tested was electric, complemented by a sporty and efficient air intake below.

Sporty Profile Meets Elegance

The vehicle boasts a sloping roofline that enhances its sporty profile, making it stand out as a high-riding fastback sedan.

However, DS Automobiles prefers to classify it as a crossover coupe.

The prototype spotted during cold-weather testing in Northern Europe was equipped with black five-spoke alloys and snow tyres, hinting at its all-weather capabilities.

The rear view reveals a clean tailgate with slim taillights and a recessed license plate, finishing with a stylish diffuser emphasising its sporty character.

Platform and Powertrain

The new DS flagship is rumoured to be based on the STLA Medium platform, shared with the latest Peugeot e-3008 and the future Jeep Compass.

This versatile platform accommodates both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicle (EV) powertrains.

With DS Automobiles’ commitment to launching only EVs and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) from 2025, the new model is expected to feature at least one plug-in hybrid variant alongside its all-electric options.

Advanced Technology

Reports suggest this model’s production will commence at the Melfi plant in Italy.

It is poised to feature a tech-infused cockpit with advanced functionalities like gesture control, voice commands, and a state-of-the-art infotainment system.

A unique digital gauge cluster might project information onto a large glass panel, offering two focal lengths for different viewing experiences for the driver and passenger.

Launch Timeline

The launch of DS Automobiles’ new flagship model is highly anticipated by the end of this year or early 2025.

As the automotive world waits with bated breath, the question remains: will this crossover coupe’s unique and quirky design capture the hearts of consumers worldwide?
